About USThe Old Kinderhook Winter Rug Hooking Camp opened it's door in January 1998 at the Stuyvesant Bed and Breakfast, Jayne's sister Mary's place. The weather was beautiful all through the week and then Thursday came ... While folks were getting ready to leave and packing up their rug hooking wool, tools and hooked rugs, a storm came in from the south. From this moment on, mother nature has said that if you are going to have a winter rug hooking camp, I am going to blanket you with all my glory ... and she has. From that very first camp, we have come to expect snow during our January rug hooking class session. It does not matter what week we have camp, it will snow. Do not fear, our roads are clean and dry within hours of the snow's end. In January 2000 we moved our rug hooking camp to the North Pointe Cultural Arts Center in Kinderhook, NY, and found a "Chef Extraordinaire", Debby Freinberg from Spice of Life Catering. For several years Early American Life's directory of Traditional American Crafts® has placed Jayne Hester in the top 200 craftspeople in the United State for her rug hooking. The November/December 2004 issue of Rug Hooking Magazine, pages 18-20, has a great article by Artisan Barbara Carroll on Jayne's rug hooking and her joi de vivre approach to the craft.
